Successful alternative despite teething problems: A summary of DMEXCO 2020 @home.
The first fully digital DMEXCO is over and it is time to draw a conclusion from the "new normal". This year, DMEXCO brought together visitors, exhibitors and partner companies on a multi-layered internet platform. Distinct communication possibilities via chat, audio and video; private, public and moderated Virtual Spaces as well as numerous live sessions with speakers from a wide range of industries characterised the experiences of the participants.
The well thought-out communication centre allowed users to get in touch with visitors, exhibitors and partner companies at any location within the platform. In our experience, this approach worked very well, allowing us to make interesting contacts with other exhibitors in live sessions and via our showroom. Even if a Virtual Café was not well attended: the next meeting point was always just a click away.
During the live sessions, you could read about users with technical problems from time to time via the implemented chat function. We cannot report any major technical problems during the fair. We did not encounter any challenges that pressing the F5 key could not solve. Also the continuous and competent support by the DMEXCO support team should not go unmentioned at this point.
The participation of Pixelboxx as an exhibitor at DMEXCO was sponsored by our partner novomind. We were represented with a brand showroom and diverse media content on our information and product offerings. Should there be another DMEXCO @home, we from Pixelboxx can imagine an expansion of our offer and would also like to offer live sessions on selected topics around digitalisation and digital asset management.
To sum up: the first completely virtual staging of DMEXCO can be described as a success all in all. Diverse networking opportunities, good support and interactive live sessions outweigh technical stumbling blocks. Although we missed the unique atmosphere in the Cologne exhibition halls and are already looking forward to seeing visitors, exhibitors and partner companies face-to-face again, in our opinion the virtual implementation of the trade fair is a successful alternative until then.
